Choose cable installation accessories by function
A termination, a joint and a cleat perform different jobs. Build the purchasing list from the cable route, equipment interfaces and installation method.
| Accessory family | What it does | Check and compare |
|---|---|---|
| Terminations and joints | Connect cable ends to equipment or join cable lengths. | Voltage designation, cores, conductor and insulation dimensions. Browse termination and joint kits. |
| Lugs and connectors | Connect the conductor to another conductor or equipment terminal. | Conductor material and size, stud hole, barrel or connector range. Browse lugs and connectors. |
| Cleats and clamps | Maintain the approved cable formation and restraint. | Outside diameter, formation, mounting and applicable restraint evidence. Browse cable cleats and clamps. |
| Routing systems | Organize and support the specified cable or panel-wiring route. | Usable dimensions, fittings, access and fixing details. Browse cable routing systems. |
From a cable schedule to an accessory list
Identify each cable type, its two end interfaces and its route. Record voltage designation, conductor size and material, core count, insulation diameter and cable outside diameter where they affect the accessory. List connectors, screen and armour continuity parts, mounting hardware and sealing parts separately when required.
For a cable end, compare the 10kV single-core cold-shrink termination for 120–240 mm². For joining two cables, use the medium-voltage cable joint selection guide to compare both constructions. For restraint, read single, trefoil and quad cleat selection and the IEC 61914 procurement checklist.
Wholesale and project ordering
For distributors, list each model and size with pack quantities, labels and the destination. For an engineering package, attach the cable schedule, route drawings and document requirements. Confirm the kit contents and compatible ranges before accepting a replacement.
Panel-wiring references include AWM Style 2464 cable and 100×50 PVC wiring duct; specify the cable construction and the duct layout separately.
Frequently asked questions
How do I choose between a joint and a termination?
A joint connects two cable lengths; a termination connects a cable end to equipment. Provide the cable construction and interface drawing for the required accessory.
Is conductor cross-section enough to select the accessories?
No. Terminations and joints also require insulation and construction details. Cleats and glands need cable outside diameter and interface dimensions.
What should a distributor order include?
List each model and size, quantity, packaging, labels and destination. Confirm what is included in kits and assemblies.
What should an engineering accessory BOM include?
Attach the cable schedule and drawings. List end accessories, conductor connectors, screen or armour parts, restraints, mounting and sealing items where required.
