Short answer: cable lug size should match conductor material, conductor cross-section, barrel inner diameter, palm hole size, palm width and crimping die requirement.
| Conductor size | Use the cable section in mm2, AWG or kcmil as the first selection parameter. Do not select only by current rating. |
|---|---|
| Barrel fit | The conductor should fit the barrel without loose strands or forced insertion. |
| Palm hole | Match M6, M8, M10, M12, M16 or project drawing requirement to the equipment stud. |
| Crimping | Confirm die code, crimping tool type and number of crimps when the project controls installation quality. |
A lug with the correct cable size can still be wrong if the palm hole, barrel length, crimp die or conductor material does not match.
